In response to the recent Herat earthquake, HBT has launched a second round of humanitarian aid to provide relief for the affected individuals. This time, our focus is on supporting needy children who require immediate assistance. These aid efforts include the distribution of warm jackets tailored for children aged 2 to 14 years old. With your generous support, we have successfully provided warm jackets to ensure these children stay warm during the approaching winter. On October 7, 2023, around 11 o’clock, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 shook the Zindaja district in Herat province. Shortly after the first earthquake, a second tremor, measuring 5.5 in magnitude, occurred, followed by additional earthquakes of lesser intensity. On October 15th, a third earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.4, rattled Herat City and other districts in Herat Province. A tragic toll unfolded as 2,500 individuals, encompassing children and women, perished, and over 10,000 others sustained injuries, while thousands of residences were obliterated. UNICEF reports reveal that in Herat Province, 90 percent of the victims of the Afghanistan Earthquake are women and children.

HBT’s team arrived in Herat on November 6, 2023, to initiate the second round of humanitarian aid for Afghan children in Herat Province. Upon arrival, our team conducted surveys to identify needy children. The overall situation was relatively better than in the past, as people had been provided with tents for shelter. However, considering the approaching winter, these aids were insufficient. Recognizing this, HBT focused on pinpointing the most vulnerable and earthquake-affected children, compiling a list for the distribution of jackets. The assessment covered needy children in the Zindajan district, specifically in Koshkak and Naib-Jan villages, as well as Herat city.

HBT organization is committed to addressing the requirements of affected children and expresses gratitude to our fellow citizens who have supported us in providing assistance. HBT organization, in its ongoing efforts to support and protect Herat earthquake-affected children, has now donated warm winter clothes to 700 children to keep them safe from the cold. These winter packages, containing snug jackets, have been distributed to both boys and girls affected by the Herat earthquake.

Since, the recent continuous earthquakes in Herat Province have caused enormous destruction. Due to a lack of shelter, most of the people were living in the open, around their destroyed homes. Therefore, in the first round of humanitarian aid for Herat earthquake sufferers, the HBT team distributed 95 warm winter blankets. These aids were given to earthquake affected women and children.
